Want Peace? Look Inside

I was going through my journal today trying to figure out what I should say for my weekly entry.

A lot has transpired since my last post.

I thought what message would be right given what I see around me my country.

I came across a piece that I wrote in December 2015:

I have hope
I saw a smile on your face one day/ it lit up my spirit
The expression on your face / I can still hear it
The power of a smile can change the world because it shines bright like the sun
The darkness fades to light / no more hatred no more he’s black she’s white / we’re all f****** one
The sooner we can realize that life is just a precious gift that we’re all here to explore/ the sooner we can humanize find peace and end war.

Peace to this nation.

Peace to everybody around the world.

Peace to every religion.

Peace to every race.

We need peace because we forgot.

We forgot that we are all ONE.

We forgot to have a little bit of understanding for the man next to us or the lady on the right or the gentleman that sits in the park on the bench that doesn’t have a home.

If you want peace.

If you want the world to be a better place.

The first place we need to start is looking inside ourselves.

When you watch the news, when you read the newspapers, when you see the Facebook feeds.

Ask yourself what are you feeling here?

What do you know about yourself in here?

Because if we can find peace in here, that peace is reflected in the world.

If we don’t have peace in our souls, if we don’t have peace in our minds, if we don’t have peace in our families and communities then how can we expect peace from everybody else?

How can we expect peace when we’re not even peaceful ourselves?

I’m not here to judge.

These are all things that I deal with myself.

At some point, you have to decide to decide on how you want to contribute to the narrative.

You can add to the chaos.

Or you can bring peace to yourself, to your soul, to mind and to the people around you.

It’s not about defending what you believe in.

It’s about peace.

And peace is understanding.

Peace is love.

Peace is giving.

Peace is hope.

Peace is you.

And it starts with you and me, in harmony.

Peace knows no boundaries.

Love knows no boundaries.

But it starts here, in the heart.
