“As long as you make an identity for yourself out of pain, you cannot become free of it. - Eckhart Tolle

Right now, you know someone going through life coping with the baggage of their affliction from childhood.

Studies have shown that the subconscious mind is most impressionable between the ages of one and seven.

For many, that is when the most devastating events occur in our lives.

Being abused, losing a parent, witnessing violence, and the like.

Unbeknownst to us, these events leave a lasting impression on our psyche and are carried over into adulthood.

They dictate our decisions…

Just keep in mind: the more we value things outside our control, the less control we have.”- Epictetus

In a material influenced society, it’s easy to be caught up in believing we are our stuff. Our cars, clothes, homes, and jobs are all status symbols we walk around wearing on our shoulders like a badge of honor.

Could we live without these things if push really came to shove? Absolutely. Once our basic needs have been met, everything else is a luxury.

If we had to switch careers and learn a new skill, would we be able to survive?

No…

Every day, millions of people are moving about the planet attached to things that happened in their past. They let it haunt them like a ghost. Abusive parents create an opportunity for abusive spouses.

The alcohol that grandpa drank becomes our vice of pride. Our third-grade teacher telling us that we’ll never be able to write stops us dead in our tracks from becoming a future prolific writer. And like a hot air balloon, we never cut the sandbags to begin our ascent to the top. It’s a shame too.

Can you imagine a world where everyone lived baggage-free? Nobody…

“Yoga is not a work-out, it is a work-in. And this is the point of spiritual practice; to make us teachable; to open up our hearts and focus our awareness so that we can know what we already know and be who we already are.” — Rolf Gates

Today is International Yoga Day. I thought I’d share a few words about how this movement, practice, and philosophy has helped me over the past few years. It’s probably not what you’d expect when you think of yoga which is all the more reason why I think you’ll enjoy it.

Since podcasting is an audio based medium, it’s critical that your sound is on point.

After hearing many fans and listeners of podcast complaint about how poor the audio quality was from a number of the podcasts they listen too, I reached out to our producers for some tips on how to record the perfect podcast episode.

1. Invest in a quality microphone

A nice dynamic microphone will work just fine. I recommend the AudioTechnica ATR2100 USB. It’s a great entry level microphone with quality audio and cost less than $100 on Amazon.

2. Record in a room with minimal reflective surfaces

Avoid tile floors, hardwood floors, and walls. Which means you should not record…

So you have a podcast. Maybe your getting some downloads, maybe your still hearing crickets.

Either way, I can’t help but asking how much time you’ve invested into your strategy?

The ready, fire, arm approach may be your tried and true method of learning, but I’m of the opinion but if you want this to be a part of your business a.k.a not a hobby, It’s essential to treat it like one.

Would you start a business on a whim without knowing who you were gonna sell to? Not knowing your product?

Of course you wouldn’t. But I see podcasters…

Today I turned 32.

I don’t profess to be sage at 32, but I’ve definitely learned a lesson or two.

One of the beauties of aging is wisdom.

Ask anyone who’s lived for a significant amount of time and they’ll gladly share stories, lessons, and experiences that have shaped their philosophy.

I don’t profess to be an old sage at 32 but I’ve learned a thing or two.

So, today I’m sharing 32 observations, in no particular order, that help me keep life in perspective.

32. Check your EGO at the door — or you’ll constantly find yourself treading water…

I left the states back in September to fly off into the Colombia sunset. It was a one-way ticket to a dream come true.

I spent two months exploring the charms of Mighty Medellin then headed due south to the Cocora Valley in the coffee triangle.

Cali lived up to it’s title of Salsa Capital of the world and so did the busy business culture of Bogota.

I wasn’t long before I was off to Mexico’s capital for tacos and what was supposed to be a momentary visa run.

As (un)luck would have it, my dinero started running low.

Sojourner Truth — African-American abolitionist and women’s rights activist.

“Just as Socrates felt that it was necessary to create a tension in the mind so that individuals could rise from the bondage of myths and half-truths to the unfettered realm of creative analysis and objective appraisal, so must we see the need for nonviolent gadflies to create the kind of tension in society that will help men rise from the dark depths of prejudice and racism to majestic heights of understanding and brotherhood.”

I was going through my journal today trying to figure out what I should say for my weekly entry.

A lot has transpired since my last post.

I thought what message would be right given what I see around me my country.

I came across a piece that I wrote in December 2015:

I have hope
I saw a smile on your face one day/ it lit up my spirit
The expression on your face / I can still hear it
The power of a smile can change the world because it shines bright like the sun
The darkness fades to light…
